Octane Productions Inc is a company started by Brandy Floyd and Emilie Morsehead in an attempt to increase awareness of women snowmobilers. Although Brandy and Emilie came into the sledding industry at different times and through different avenues, they both felt a strong urge to promote women in this sport. Promotion can be achieved through many different means and methods and many riders create their own individual definition. However, one common denominator found with many women riders, for whatever reason, is a general fear of putting themselves out there as well as to push their own personal limitations. Octane Productions was started to encourage women to push these boundaries, it was started to give a place where women could showcase their talents and get recognition for themselves and their sponsors if they choose. Octane’s goal was to provide inspiration for other female riders and to encourage them to set their goals and the bar high!
For the winter of 2010-2011, this lead to a highly praised all women’s film produced by Octane Productions and shot and edited by Shaun Brender. The film, Flirting With Danger, set a new standard for women’s snowmobiling films and encouraged women from all over the world to contact Octane with wishes to ride in their next film. This production used considerable resources, as does every film production. Personal sponsors became film sponsors and more contacts were made for further sponsorships, women riders were asked to step outside their comfortzones on many occasions and asked to travel chasing the snow and sun! Hours upon hours were spent editing footage and deciding how best to present it in an attempt to capture the women’s riding scene at it’s finest. Hours upon hours were spent marketing this film and opening the eyes of the general snowmobiling population to the thought/idea of an all women’s film that brought entertainment value, skilled riders and fantastic camera work. The result was a success! A full length DVD packed with skillful female riders, amazing footage shot by and edited by Shaun with a view into the world of women backcountry sledders.
The 2011-2012 season started off with a bang and there was much interest in lining up filming shots from riders near and far! However, the snow and weather were not playing nice and resources were running low. With a commitment to quality Octane decided it was best to take a season off from filming and focus on growing the name while lining up resources for future developments. There has been much work going on behind the scenes at Octane as we grow our marketing presence. There are also quite a few ladies who have been working very hard this past season honing their skills and making connections in hopes of being able to submit footage or pictures for future projects. Please check back frequently as we grow content and explore possibilities of future ventures!
